List descriptions:
We have 3 lists, listed in order of decreasing levels of "seriousness", or how much they relate to chapter business. If you subscribe to nothing else, subscribe to raljcProjects. That will keep you up to date on anything you need to know about Chapter activities. If you post something to raljcProjects, there is no need to copy it to raljcBroadcast, you won't be reaching anybody "new". ie. the people on Broadcast and Chatter are only a sub-set of the people on Projects.
raljcProjects Project-specific announcements, such as: interest meetings, project thank-yous, wrap-ups, project announcements, endorsements, chairperson requests (by Board members), manpower requests, and similar project-specific information. Note: these emails should come from people officially involved with the project (eg. chairperson, Director, VP, manpower sub-chair, etc) (if you don't fall into that category, then post it on Broadcast). Expect to get 2-3 emails/day (as an average).
raljcBroadcast Broadcast messages should be limited to Professional and Official Jaycee Content. Professional Content shall include, but is not limited to, something that is going to benefit a Jaycee. Things such as a Jaycee selling a house or a car or any other personal item, local tickets to local events both selling and looking for, sending out a resume or sending out a resume for a friend who may want to relocate to the area and hence is a possible prospective member, and Jaycees that are having a party. As long as the email is of a professional manner it shouldn't be a problem. Inappropriate content includes, but is not limited to, personal opinions, political views or ads (except Candidates for Jaycee office), back and forth banter, jokes of any kind, or non-professional Jaycee email. Expect to get 5-10 emails/day (as an average).
raljcChatter Other messages that might or might not be Jaycee related, and messages that do not meet the requirements for other existing lists. If you have any doubts about whether something belongs on another list, post it here instead. Expect the unexpected (this list is new, so we're waiting to see how it shapes itself). You may see the occassional joke of questionable content... we like to think that what you post, makes a statement about who you are. As a Chapter, the statement we intend to make is that we want our members to have way to communicate freely with each other.
Some examples:
Project chairperson has many people asking the same question, so they post the answer to Projects as a reminder.
Member wants to know 'Where does the carpool for Project XYZ meet?'... email the chairperson, or post on Broadcast.
Member wants to ask other members 'I'm going to Project XYZ, anyone want to carpool?'... post this to Broadcast.
Member wants to ask other members 'I'm going furniture shopping in High Point tomorrow... anyone want to go?'... post this on Chatter.
You can find a full description of the lists in the Chapter Policies (available from file download section under
the Resources Menu tab). Please note we do not allow attachments on our lists to help prevent the spread of email
viruses. Please send all messages as plain text.
Delivery modes explained
Please note: when you initially subscribe, it will be in normal mode. You can then switch to any mode you like, but you must subscribe to a list before you can change the delivery mode.
Individual Emails (normal mode)
Messages are delivered one at a time to your email inbox. This is the best option if you want to keep up on the latest posts immediately. Email attachments, if included in a message and allowed by your moderator, will be sent directly to you.
Daily Digest
Messages are delivered in batches of 25 or daily, whichever comes sooner. This is the best option if you want to receive fewer mail messages and don't need up-to-the minute posts in your inbox.
No Mail / Web Only
This option puts email message delivery on hold, for example while you are on vacation. If message archives are available, this option also permits you to read messages at the Yahoo! Groups web site (if you have a Yahoo ID).
How to switch email addresses on Yahoo groups
To change your Yahoo group addr:
Log in to the roster and click on "Edit my info"
Start with old@email.addr as your "Primary" addr in your roster info. Put new@email.addr in the "Alternate" email addr spot.
Click on the "Subscribe To/Unsubscribe From/Change Delivery modes" button on the Roster Navigation Menu
"Subscribe To" the lists you would like with your new@email.addr (use the pull-down menus to pick the list and which addr to use).
Log out of the roster
Wait for the Yahoo confirmation emails... reply to those emails.
Wait until you are sure that you are now receiving the lists you want at your new@email.addr
Log in to the roster
Click on the "Subscribe To/Unsubscribe From/Change Delivery modes" button on the Roster Navigation Menu
"Unsubscribe" your old@email.addr from EACH list you were subscribed to (you may need to do this several times)
Log out of the roster
Wait for the mails from Yahoo asking you to verify that you DO want to unsubscribe
Reply to those emails
Log in to the roster and click on "Edit my info"
Remove old@email.addr from Primary. If you want people to see your new@email.addr, move it from Alternative to Primary
If you have a Yahoo ID and are comfortable logging in to myYahoo, you can simply swap the email addrs
out on the Yahoo side. This is much easier, but requires a Yahoo (which many of our members do not have),
and a comfort level of working in the Yahoo preferences.
